Free Versions of Commercial Software

A site I found works on an interesting principle: there are all kinds of promotions that software publishers are prepared to give away. These are usually from CD's/DVD's found on magazine covers or linked to peripherals. Generally, the programs are 1-3 years old, and can be re-installed at a later date as needed.

Some users who frequent the site are the best sources for these programs. In the case of the occasional tricky install, there's always some who figure out a work-a-round. We're not talking hacks, just getting rid of nag screens, changing a program's language, etc.

It's worth a visit. The software offerings are pretty impressive. Even if you decide not to keep a program, it's nice to be able to check it out at your own pace.

Hey Ron - have you actually downloaded and installed anything from this site yourself? The reason I ask is I have been receiving RSS feeds from the 4 Free on the Internet site for some time now and I have yet to come across anything which is still current. Every time I check something out, the link to the download has expired....I go back and double check the date of the post and it is like, months old. Yet to come across any free offer there for useful commercial software which is still valid. Perhaps I am doing something wrong, looking in the wrong places??

cheers mate......JIM

Yeah, Jim, I have.
First, I've never used the feed and have no idea why you're not getting useful results. I check the site routinely, along with a couple of others. (Links below)
Mostly I'm putting these away for future need for others, if not myself. They include Virtual CD8, Registry Mechanic, Cyberlink Power2Go, several Paragon utilities, WinUtilities, Ashampoo Office 2008, ArcSoft Darkroom and associated programs, Laplink PC Mover (from another site), and more. There was an offer for Paint Shop Pro X which required some tweaking. Since I own it, I didn't bother. That PSP link now goes to a Lexar promtion for Corel Media One; nice organizer.

Besides 4 Free, there's Raymond.cc and Syshacks. See what you think.

Hey Ron - Okay, well I don't understand it either...I guess I'll just keep trying.

I even posted about one of their freebies here on the forum, have a look at this thread: viewtopic.php?f=24&t=308
Made a bit of a goose of myself with that one from 4 Free!!

Thanks for the links mate...they are both new to me. I'll check 'em out and add them to my RSS feeds.

Thanks Ron......JIM

It happens. Generally the programs that are no longer active are listed separately, especially on the 4-Free site. Links on many of those sites for the promos are usually copy-and-paste.

Yes Ron, I did notice the copy and paste scenario. I've added both those other sites to my bookmarks.

Thanks mate.....JIM
