Every month I receive word from Microsoft about upcoming new Windows 11 features, which I then pass on to you, the readers. We’ve been promised so many new features over the past couple of months, and yet I am not seeing any of them appear on either of my Windows 11 25H2 systems.
I was told that the August Patch Tuesday update would deliver:
- A fully moveable Taskbar that can be positioned at the top, left, and right edges of the screen as well as at the bottom
- Options to resize the Start menu
- File sizes in File Explorer to be displayed in MBs and GBs as well as KBs
- A revamped search feature which concentrates more on local content
None of that arrived in August. However, Microsoft then informed me that the August update installed those new features but didn’t actually activate them, and we’d have to wait for the September Patch Tuesday update which would then enable those new features.
Well, September Patch Tuesday has been and gone, and the update is installed on both of my Windows 11 25H2 systems, with still no sign of those new features.
I must add that Microsoft continually warns that these new features are being rolled out gradually, so not everyone will see them right away, but still, from my point of view, it’s disappointing to keep being promised so much with so little actually being delivered.
Disappointing both as a user and also as a writer who is informing you good people of upcoming new Windows 11 features.
Why The Delaying Tactics?
One can only surmise that these gradual rollouts are because the consistently buggy updates have caused Microsoft to lose faith in its system of relying on Insider feedback to verify updates and are wary of inflicting widespread bugs via mass deployment.
In other words, we are all now being used as guinea pigs.

My one Windows pc was updated to 26H2 last patch Tuesday, I really do not see any real difference between it and 25H2, other than the moveable taskbar update which I still haven’t gotten but could acre less about because my taskbar has and always will remain at the bottom of my screen.
We will see what the final release brings but right now 26H2 is just flat and I am really just unimpressed.
