Upcoming New Features For Windows 11

Microsoft has announced several forthcoming new features for Windows 11 that will first be introduced via the Insider program and then moved to full implementation once they have cleared the testing period.

Windows 11 New Features

*Taskbar: Perhaps the most notable of the new features is the ability to move the Taskbar to all edges of the screen – bottom, top, right, and left. This feature has always been available in Windows until, for some unknown reason, it was dropped in Windows 11.

It has also been one of the most requested features and is sure to find favour with many users.

*Battery Level Indicator: Those running a laptop should appreciate a new feature to permanently display the current battery level. This new feature will be accessible via Settings > System > Power & Battery

*Multiple Monitors: A new keyboard shortcut will be introduced to quickly move a window between monitors: WIN + Shift + Left/Right

*Windows Updates: Microsoft is working toward easing disruptions caused by Windows Updates, which have been one of the most criticised aspects of Windows 11

New Windows Update features include the ability to skip updates during device setup, restart or shut down without installing updates, and pause updates for longer – according to reports, users will be able to pause updates indefinitely.

New Features Timing

There is no set time for new features to move from Insider builds to general distribution. However, given the scope of these particular new features, I wouldn’t expect them to reach general distribution for several months.

Even then, Microsoft tends to roll out new features in phases, meaning the timing can change per device.
