ASCI (American Customer Satisfaction Index) has completed a study to ascertain which PC brands rate best for customer satisfaction.
ASCI incorporated a variety of factors to come up with an overall customer satisfaction rating, including:
- Availability of software/apps
- Design (size, visual appeal)
- Graphics and audio quality
- Frequency of system crashes
- Ease of operation (navigation, settings, mouse)
- Availability of accessories (chargers, adapters, printers, game controllers, headphones, etc.)
- Features (operating system, preloaded software, memory, storage)
Acer came out as the worst brand for customer satisfaction, with HP coming out on top as the best:

A score of 81 is the median, with 3 brands scoring higher than 81 and 6 brands scoring lower than the median. Mind you, there isn’t a huge difference between top and bottom scores.
I’m not surprised to see HP, Apple, and Dell as the top 3; all involve quality hardware. I am, however, a tad surprised that Asus didn’t rate higher. I’ve always had a high opinion of Asus machines. And I have no idea what “All Others” might incorporate.
BOTTOM LINE:
I’m not sure that this study is all that helpful when choosing a new PC, most users tend to buy based on specs and pricing. And many will stick with a brand with which they’ve previously enjoyed a good run.
I remember years ago reading the results of a similar study, only on that occasion, a number of PC repairers were asked which brands came in for repairs least often to most often.
The brands that were taken to repairers least often (or most reliable) were Toshiba, HP, and Asus. I forgot which brands were rated the worst for breakdowns. Sorry about that…
Personally, with the price of new PCs on the increase, I’ve taken to buying refurbished machines and tend to stick with the Dell OptiPlex range; they are quality-built and just keep on keeping on.
As always, your comments are most welcome.

Hi Jim. This study is total bonkers. How many people only complain vs those who have no problems, thus remain silent? I have 3 Acer computers, one being a laptop. I called tech support because the battery ran down, and I was guided on how to correct the problem. This was the first and only time I required tech support. I can say I am extremely satisfied with all my computers, including the two recent mini-pc’s from Bosgame.
Yes, I do find fault with the Acer Laptop charger, as no replacement units are readily available, in case there is a problem, Mindblower!
I tend to agree with you MB. As I said in the article, most users will tend to stick with a brand that has served them well in the past.
