I received this message from my Opera browser on two separate computers. The message read:
“The extension upgrade requires additional permissions. Go to the extension manager to accept the upgrade.” Then, an option to click reads “Go to Extensions”. Clicking on it sends you to the Extensions page.
The only one with an upgrade notice was the “Bitwarden Password Manager” extension.
I clicked on the Update button and up popped this somewhat garbled message. I clicked on “Update”.
Nothing happened, and the message on the browser kept popping up. I restarted the browser, but nothing changed. I cleared out the history/cache. Nothing changed.
I did not want to reset the browser, and I didn’t. What I did was to remove the Bitwarden extension and install it again.
Note: This problem happened on both of my computers.
Go to the Extensions Management Page. A quick way to get there is to type opera://extensions/ in the URL or address bar. Find the extension you want to remove. In my case, the “Bitwarden Password Manager”. Click on the “Remove” button.
You’ll see a small pop-up message in the top right corner of the browser asking if you want to remove the extension. Click on “Remove”.
Then I went to Opera’s add-ons and extensions page.
I searched for the Bitwarden extension to add it back to Opera. When I first signed in to my account, Bitwarden had to send me a confirmation code to my email, claiming it didn’t recognize my device, but otherwise, everything seems to be back to normal.
Want to hear something funny? I did this on my CyberPowerPC, and when I switched over to my ASUS to fix it there, the problem seemed to have gone away on its own. So if you are lazy, you can do nothing and wait it out. 🙂

Seems this issue of Opera updates breaking Bitwarden is nothing new.
A quick web search finds several prior times this has occurred and has been fixed with a subsequent browser update which has probably occurred in your case.
