Proton is well-known for its privacy-focused online services and software, including Proton Mail, Proton Pass, Proton VPN, Proton Drive, and now Lumo AI.
Proton has recently released version 2.0 of its privacy-focused Lumo AI with the following introduction:
Most platforms train their models with people’s conversations or mine their thoughts and ideas to build advertising profiles. And worst of all, AI surveillance is increasingly embedded into our daily lives without our consent: from our browsers and smart home devices to the apps we use every day.
That’s why we launched Lumo, an AI where our conversations are actually private. A year after its launch, we’re proud to announce its biggest upgrade yet which further proves that AI can be powerful and private at the same time.
Lumo AI’s Main Features:
- Multiple models: From quick questions to data analysis, select the preferred model for the task at hand
- More control: Switch between Fast and Thinking modes to choose how Lumo tackles your request
- Better responses: Improved web search pulls in live results for up-to-date replies
- Greater customization: Create purpose-built assistants to tackle a variety of tasks
- Work visually: Generate and edit visuals, analyze images, and turn raw data into charts and graphs
Lumo AI is free right now, but I doubt that will remain the case. Proton’s distribution model normally includes both free and premium offerings, plus Proton is still working on new Lumo features which, once completed, are almost certain to be included in a premium version only.
Regardless, considering it’s highly likely that Lumo will remain the only truly private AI, it might be worth giving it a try now while it’s free.
