Windows Optional Update KB5127936 Explained

Windows 11 users should be seeing an optional update (KB5127936) available to install. This update brings changes to the Windows 11 right-click context menu that Microsoft promised.

Many users have complained about the length of the Windows 11 context menu, and this update includes customization options that go a long way to resolving that complaint.

Customization options for the right-click menu include:

  • The ability to remove Windows commands you don’t use often – such as ‘Send to’ – and add commands you do use
  • Displaying Cut, Copy, Paste, Rename, Delete, and Share as text entries in the list instead of a row of icons along the top
  • Shifting the order of entries to suit your preferences

And Microsoft says the new right-click menu is faster, too: “The updated menu opens more quickly, reduces clutter, and gives you more control over the commands and app extensions that appear when you right-click”.

NOTE: This is an optional release, meaning it’s still in preview and the full release will be included in the November patch update. So, if you’d prefer to wait for the full release, it should land within the next couple of weeks.
