When I was a lad, there were no computers or smart devices, and the only tablets we knew were the tablets we swallowed with water when we were ill.
When I was a lad, most of our fun time was spent outdoors. We’d play games and football in the park, and race our homemade billy-carts down the steepest hills we could find. We always seemed to be missing skin off knees and/or elbows, but boy, was it fun!

When I was a lad, and I misbehaved, my dad would put me over his knee and deliver a couple of decent whacks to my bum. And if we played up at school, the teacher would give us the cane. We’d hold out a hand, palm up, and the teacher would whack the hand with a thin cane. It was called discipline, and it never did any of us any harm.
When I was a lad, we never locked up the house or the family car, safe in the knowledge that nobody would enter our house uninvited or mess with our car, not necessarily because they were afraid of getting caught and punished; it was simply considered the wrong thing to do.
When I was a lad, life was simpler; the curse that is social media was unheard of, and AI was pure science fiction.

Hi Jim. Here a strap was used. Life was indeed better and we interacted verbally. We were taught look right, then left before crossing the street.
I enjoy the life improvements technology has granted us but at what cost, Mindblower!
I remember when digital watches and calculators first came out and you were not allowed to use calculators in schools, but now they are required in some classrooms. I don’t think life was any better back then. Just different.

Never mind calculators, here in Australia laptops and/or iPads are mandatory in High Schools.
I worked at private school here in Tucson as an assistant to the technology director and all the students were issued chromebooks.

And now if a teacher does any of that he would be charged with assault. That is if you can find a male teacher these days. Boys need a father figure because a lot of them don’t have one at home and many are being brought up by single mothers on welfare and then at school they only see female teachers who want to “talk” through issues. And we wonder why we have a problem with a general lack of respect for police and authority these days. We have produced a generation of weak, woke man-babies and I shudder for the future.

My sister-in-law is a teacher in NSW and, some time ago, they were all issued with an instruction that students’ reports must not include any negative comments. Crazy!!
