YouTube is really getting on my tits lately!
The reason I signed up for YouTube Premium in the first place was to not be bombarded by moronic ads every few minutes, not to mention the super-low price of $3 per month where I live. However, in line with the general trend of dumbing everything down nowadays, YouTube is automatically translating original video titles into my general Google language preference, which is clearly English. Did I ask for that? No!
Leave The Video Titles Alone Please!
After living in Argentina for more than 20 years, I now speak, read, and write fluently in Spanish. I can even follow TV and news shows in Spanish, so I don’t need YouTube video titles to be translated into English, thanks very much. Not only are the translations very often off the mark, but usually lose the impact and nuances of the original language.
How To Prevent Title Translation
If you search with the phrase stop YouTube translating video titles, hundreds of suggestions will appear, including Google’s very own instructions, which bear no relation to reality whatsoever because there are NO language settings that can be tweaked in the settings page of YouTube. I have English and Spanish listed in my main Google account, but in neither area is there an option to prevent automatic translations. It was also suggested that browser settings would affect this, so I unchecked the option in Opera, but this had no effect.
The only option that I’ve found is to install a browser extension, which I consider to be an unnecessary nuisance, quite frankly, but there it is. The extension recommended is YouTube Anti Translate, which does exactly what it says on the can, and the reviews bear this out:
So there you have it. Due to Google’s incompetence, we need to install an extension to get around an annoyance that the company itself could spend five minutes on fixing, but perhaps that’s too much to ask nowadays.

Bless you for actually understanding the issue! When I searched for how to disable translations I got so many articles that just parroted the brain dead option of “change which language the titles are translated to” instead of “turn translations off”.
I hope it helps, Helen!
Enjoyed your little rant. Just what I need first thing in the morning, a little laughter.
I love a good rant in the morning, Kelltic!
