Most of you will be aware of the Virus Total website, but its service is limited to scanning executables and URLs for malware only. Here then are a couple of online services that present a more comprehensive URL report to help ensure both security and safety.
URLVoid
This online service not only checks for malware via trusted antivirus engines such as Avira, Bitdefender, and Dr. Web, but also checks whether the website is on any known blocklists maintained by blacklist providers. In addition, it also queries the “Phishing Database” and online reputation sources such as WOT (Web of Trust).
So, it presents a comprehensive analysis of websites, not only checking for possible malware, but also pulling data from external sources to report on safety aspects.
Scam Detector
Scam Detector is particularly useful for checking the reputation of online shopping sites. We’ve all been there; you come across what appears to be a bargain, but it’s on a site that you’ve never bought from previously, and that creates uncertainty.
Run the URL through Scam Detector, and it will come up with a “Trust Score” for that particular online store. Scam Detector utilizes an algorithm involving 53 factors to obtain its final “Trust Score”, which provides a very good guide as to whether a website, or online store, is trustworthy or not.
Stay safe out there!
