Geek Fact for February 13th

In 1923, Chuck Yeager was born.

On October 14th, 1947 he became the first person to attain supersonic flight when he flew the Bell XS-1 (named Glamorous Glennis) past the sound barrier.

In 1980, Apollo Computer Inc. was incorporated.

Apollo made high-powered, self-contained computer workstations for scientists. HP acquired Apollo Computer Corporation of Massachusetts in 1989 for $476 million.

In 1997, Space Shuttle Discovery’s astronauts hauled the Hubble Space Telescope aboard to begin a $350 million refurbishment.

This was the 2nd repair mission. A device was installed to make Hubble able to see infrared light. Also installed was a stronger data recorder.
