Attempted to do a R installation but never got the option for R.

Now my computer is shutting down with an error message:

Ouch, the dreaded BSOD - nasty!

Terry, try the repair installation again. Go to [url=http://www.informationweek.com/news/windows/operatingsystems/189400897:2mji4ruw]THIS SITE[/url:2mji4ruw] for a comprehensive guide.

Cheers...Jim

Is that a 'disk' error message or a 'disc' error message? Disk (with a k) being the hard drive, disc (with a c) being the CD/DVD Rom drive.

What is the full error message? Are you removing the installation disc as soon as you get to the screen which says "Your computer will reboot in 10 seconds..."?

Couldn't sleep. That error is on the installation disc.
After studying the original BSOD I remember installing a new Adobe plug-in for Camera Raw.
I have deleted that and my machine has been running for a couple of hours now with no problems.
I have to get up in 4 hours and hopefully I'll still be running OK !!!

A frustrating 3 days. I loaded Windows 7. Lost a minimum of files. Mainly bookmarks....apprx 3000
The big loss was all of my javascript menu files.
I was just a few hours away from creating an image back up.
Not using wireless any more. I ran a 50" ethernet cable to my router. Machine's internet is much faster now.

For what's it's worth, I've spoken with several techs in this wireless field, and for even short distances, wire is the best way to go. It is faster, and more secure than wireless. There might be exceptions, with those using high end components, so that's my 2 cents worth, Mindblower!

I still have not addressed my wife machine's problem. Seeing as I did not see and reference to an "R" install, I am reticent to proceed further. Maybe an additional internal drive...

Terry - Did you see my reply about 10 posts ago?

[quote:3qizchll]"try the repair installation again. Go to THIS SITE for a comprehensive guide."[/quote:3qizchll]

There is a link included in that reply to a very good guide (screenshots and all) on how to perform a Repair installation.
