(Not a question about Windows 8/8.1 but can't comment in below post)
https://davescomputertips.com/8-reasons-why-windows-8-sucks/

In "Stripped out features" in mentioned post (link) there's something wrong. Windows still have sounds.

Also, desktop gadgets got removed due to vulnerabilities.

Hi Yue,

This article is going on five years old and comments are no longer being accepted on such an aged post.

I can't respond to what the writer had in mind when he was talking about the Windows Sounds. Sorry, can't help you there. Maybe Marc will see this and offer up a response.

The Gadgets got removed for the reason you mentioned. Agreed. There were many ways, and still are, to work around this, however.

Yue Ling. As a fist time poster here, making a comment on a very old post, I can almost rest assured you will not reply, but here goes.

If you read all the posts, from the beginning, you might not of posted your comment, as I have no idea what you meant.

I still use Windows 8.1 as many others do, have not noticed any problems, continue to use (have replaced all the silly features that were bundled with 8.0 and 8.1) third party aids as others mentioned in their posts. I found the article provided users to have an interesting debate. So, prove me wrong, and explain your post, Mindblower!

Hello, Yue Ling
I wrote the article about five years ago and as far as I can remember (bearing in mind that I haven't used Windows 8 since Windows 10 replaced it), Windows 8 did indeed remove many features that were present in Windows 7, including many of the default sounds.
As others have pointed out, these issues could be overcome with some tweaking and installing third party add-ons.
Gadgets were seen by Microsoft as vulnerable to malicious attacks, however, I have installed Gadgets on systems running Windows 7 and higher, with no ill effects.
I hope this clears up any doubts you may have.
