ROG Xbox Ally Handheld Is A Game Changer

rog-xbox-ally

I’ve never used a game console, a handheld, or a controller, but the recent Microsoft reveal of the ROG Xbox Ally really piqued my interest. Neither am I an expert on handheld gaming devices, being a PC gamer, but we can’t ignore this new handheld from Microsoft. Developed in partnership with ASUS – hence the ROG (Republic of Gamers) in the name – this is set to be a game-changing device because it runs on Windows 11, just like the original ASUS ROG Ally.

ROG Xbox Ally And Ally X

This is one powerful handheld with the X version having 24GB of memory and a 1TB NVMe, which is apparently upgradeable:

  • Windows 11
  • AMD Ryzen Z2 A Processor
  • 7″FHD 1080p screen 120Hz
  • Wi-Fi and Bluetooth
  • 2 x USB 3.2
  • SD card reader
  • Audio jack

If you play on a Nintendo Switch, you’re limited to Nintendo games, and the same goes for most consoles, such as the PlayStation and Xbox. The same goes for the Steam Deck, where you can only play Steam games. But with this new handheld, which runs Windows 11, you’ll be able to play games on Xbox Game Pass, Steam, GOG, EA, Ubisoft, and others. Surely this has to be a game changer?

Release Date And Prices?

All we know so far is that the ROG Xbox Ally is due to be released in ‘holiday 2025’, so one has to assume that’s Christmas this year. As for price, nothing has been confirmed, but I imagine that it would have to be competitive with the ROG Ally, which is priced at around $650. I must admit that even I would be tempted to buy one, even though I have never used a console or handheld in my life. What I really appreciate is its versatility and clever design.
