Microsoft Now Rolling Out Windows 10 ESU

In a recent blog announcement, Microsoft confirmed that the Windows 10 ESU (Extended Security Updates) program is now live and the company is in the process of rolling out enrollment options to users.

Starting today [22nd July], individuals will begin to see an enrollment wizard through notifications and in Settings, making it simple to select the best option for you and enroll in ESU directly from your personal Windows 10 PC.

The program extends support for security updates for one year past Windows 10’s end-of-support date (14th October) and currently includes three enrollment options:

  1. Paid: One-time purchase of $30 USD or local currency equivalent plus applicable tax
  2. Free: When you back up all your data and settings to OneDrive
  3. Free: By redeeming 1000 Microsoft Reward points

Plus, of course, there is the option to go with OPatch’s ESU plan, which is slightly less expensive and guaranteed for a minimum of 5 years of support.

BOTTOM LINE:

While Microsoft’s Windows 10 ESU program is now live, users will need to wait until they receive their notification before they can enroll. However, Microsoft has stated that the rollout is expected to be completed by the middle of August.

I was thrilled to see option 3 but NO WHERE on the redemption site is there anything “I could see” in regard to this. What might it be listed under? Please advise.

The new update window will not be released till Oct 14th or 15th.
