How To Use Your iPhone For Laundry Care

Yes, you read that correctly! I know, I know! It sounds crazy, but yes, that’s yet another cool thing you can use your iPhone for! Who knew?  Certainly not me! But when I found out, I had to try it. It works! And since it does work and it actually comes in handy, I thought I would share it with you. I have always hated those icons they put on a nice sweater, dress, etc. I can never remember what they stand for, and I find them very confusing. Hopefully, this will help you out like it did for me!

Follow the steps below to learn how:

  1.  Find an article of clothing with laundry care symbols you don’t understand.
  2.  Take a clear picture of the tag, focusing on the symbols.
  3.  Open in Photos.
  4.  Navigate to the photo you just took in your Photo Library.
  5.  Tap the information icon (a lowercase “i” with sparkles).
  6.   Select the Look Up Laundry Care option.
  7.  The app will analyze the symbols and display their meanings.

Caveat: This feature requires iOS 17 or later.

Additionally, if you are not one of those individuals who has an iPhone or doesn’t care to use it in this manner, you can always print a sheet of laundry care symbols and keep it near your washing machine for reference.

  1. Well, my goodness, that’s one digital laundry hack I had not seen. The same trick works with Android phones except you copy the image from your camera or Photos, then click the right icon in the search bar on Images.google.com and paste in the image.

When I read the title of this post I expected to be reminded that if I preload my washer (or dryer or oven or nearly anything in my new home), I can turn it on while waiting for a an appointment. I can choose the settings. I can even turn on the fan over my stove after I start cooking remotely. Or I could do all that stuff if I downloaded an app and set it up. But me? It’s all a little too much. I want to feel buttons under my fingers and turn dials with my hands. I don’t need or want all this fancy stuff that will probably blow a chip about 13 hours after the warranty expires.

Despite the rant, your fabric care tip is well worth knowing and I thank your it.
