I get it. The heading may sound like I should know this, but when you get something new, there are all manner of things that you cannot figure out, regardless of how intelligent you may or may not be. So let’s get to it.
Follow the steps below to learn how:
- To turn off your Apple Watch
- Press and hold the side button ( below the Crown) until the power sliders appear on your screen
- Tap the Power Off button located in the top right corner of your screen
- Drag the Power Off slide to the right to confirm
- To turn on your Apple Watch
- Press and hold the side button again
- Release the button when the Apple logo appears on your screen
Alternatively:
- You can also turn off your Apple Watch through the Settings app
- Press the Digital Crown to go to your apps
- Tap Settings, then select General
- Scroll all the way down and tap Shut Down

While I don’t own an Apple watch I do have a basic smart watch. Since I don’t have much faith in sleep monitoring. The fitbit previously was wildly variable, so I routinely turn off my new watch when going to bed. The result is the interval between charges has increased dramatically. Fewer charges will result in longer battery life so this is a win IMO.
