It’s a fact of life that many software developers, including Microsoft, like to have their programs start up with Windows. In many cases, this is totally unnecessary and these programs can easily be accessed manually.
Windows 11 users can now choose to be notified whenever a new program is added to the startup list. Here’s how:
- Navigate to Settings > System > Notifications
- Make sure the “Notifications” option is set to “ON”
- Scroll down to the “Notifications from apps and other senders” section and keep scrolling down until you see the “Startup App Notification” setting
- Set “Startup App Notification” to ON
That’s it, from now on you’ll receive a notification whenever a new program is added to auto-start.
Windows 11 24H2 & Teams
Speaking of which. I’ve just updated one of my Windows 11 machines to 24H2, and Microsoft Teams has been added to auto-start. This is definitely unnecessary, and I recommend you disable Teams from auto-starting.
It’s early days for me with Windows 11 24H2 but so far so good. I’ve noticed it is a little slower to load than 23H2 but is very responsive once fully loaded. I’ll report more on 24H2 once I’ve had more experience with it.
