How To Delete Bulk Emails By Year in Gmail

Last time I showed you how to delete emails that were older than a year.  So now I will show you how to delete Gmail by a specific year. This is a lot easier than I imagine you may have thought. It is a new year and I am really trying to keep things neat and tidy and not letting all those emails pile up again. If you would like to do that as well, then this is the post for you!

Follow the steps below to learn how:

  1. In the search bar at the top of your inbox, key in after:YYYY/M/D before:YYYY/M/D
  2. Fill with the applicable dates to pinpoint a single year or any other date range
  3. Select all emails that appear, and click Delete

Now here is another great way to delete your Gmail and that is how to quickly delete all your unread emails!

Follow the steps below:

  1. In the search field, key in unread and press enter, which will bring up all your unread email
  2. Click the Select all box
  3. If you would like to save time, click the select all conversations that match the search
  4. Click the trash can icon
  5. On your iPhone or iPad, open your Gmail app
  6. On the left of a message, tap the sender’s profile image
  7. At the top left, tap the box right next to Select all
  8. At the top, tap Delete
  9. Open your Gmail app and tap the search bar
  10. Key in older_than:1y (or whatever desired period you would like) and then press enter or before:YYYY/M/D (fill in the date you like) in the search bar and press enter
  11. If emails are found, you can select and delete them in bulk

I hope you are loving learning how to do this as much as I am! Remember, neat and tidy is the way to go for the new year!

  1. Hi Carol
Each to their own but just wanted to contrinbute that I couldn’t count the number of times I’ve been able to “save the day” by retrieving an old email from my GMail account to evidence a former conversation or incorrect charge.etc. So given you have 15Gb to play with, I personally retain as many years worth as possible and don’t even consider spring cleaning out until I get to around 12Gb and the “want to buy more storage ?” Google advertising starts to appear.

When that happens I delete by searching by name of the sender to limit deleting personal emails and focus instead on the vast amount of outdated advertising emails.
    Cheers
    Reg
