Hiding The Folders Panel in Thunderbird

It’s no secret that I like to tweak and customize my OS, so of course it won’t come as any big surprise that I also like to customize my browser and email client. For my email client I use Thunderbird, mainly because of the number of add-ons and themes to help me tweak it to my liking. One of the things I didn’t like was the folders panel and until recently couldn’t find a way to hide it.

Then I stumbled across an add-on called Autohide Folders Panel which does exactly what I want it to! I know this add-on has been around for a while, but it is new to me.

So, if you use Thunderbird and like to try various add-ons to tweak your Thunderbird then maybe you will like this one too.
There are just two settings to play with, the first is a check box that allows you to turn the auto show on or off when you slide your mouse over to the left side of the window. The second allows you to set the time in seconds as to how long the panel will show when new mail arrives. *Selecting 0 turns this feature off altogether.

Why would I want this add-on? Well I have rules setup for all three of my email accounts to automatically move all new mail to a local inbox. Basically because I don’t want to be clicking on three different inboxes to check my mail, therefore I don’t need all the clutter shown down the left hand side of the window. What I do need though is easy access to the panel, from time to time, to check and see if any mail has been sent to the spam folder by mistake. So, this add-on satisfies my needs for a tidy Thunderbird window perfectly.

If you want to try the add-on it is available here: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-us/thunderbird/addon/auto-hide-folders-panel/
