I know! Sounds really strange, right? Well, I guess it sounds a little strange anyway for us old folk. But that is why I am here – to bring you up to speed and teach you how to make things easier for you, or if not easier, at least fun, and you will learn something to boot! It will totally freak out your grandchildren. Ask me how I know!
This is really very simple, and you should not have any problems.
Follow the steps below to learn how:
- First, open the settings app on your iPhone.
- Tap Siri.
- Turn on Announce Calls.
- Now, when a call comes in, the caller is identified, and you will be asked whether you want to answer the call. Say ‘Yes’.
- Accept the call, or decline the call.
Easy peasy, right?

I am wondering where Siri gets the caller’s identity. Does Siri find it in your Contacts list or can other callers be identified?
My comment was deleted?? Why? I wanted to know how Siri acquired the identity of the callers and hoped you would tell me.
Hey Kelltic,
Your comment wasn’t deleted, it was merely awaiting approval. I’m in Australia, it’s currently 6.20am here and I just got out of bed.
Apologies for the delay in approving your comment, but you need to be mindful of the time differences.
To answer your question: Siri pulls the names from the list of contacts, and only announces names that are already in that list.
Sorry, I thought maybe the system didn’t like my AtOdds name. My deepest apologies, but I confess, I am laughing. Late sleeper, are you? Appreciate the response… and your articles.
You call 6.20am (in the morning) late? You must get up very early. 🙂
No problem, by the way, all good.
