January 10th proved to be monumental date for the companies America Online, Time, Inc. and Warner Communications.
On this date in 1990, Time Inc. acquired Warner Communications for $14.1 billion. Thus began Time Warner, one of the world’s largest media and entertainment conglomerates.
Also on this date in 2000, America Online (AOL) announced that it had agreed to buy Time Warner for $165 billion.
On December 10th, 2009, AOL spun off Time Warner Inc. By virtually all accounts, the AOL/Time Warner merger had not been successful.
