Now I see it, now I look silly, yes I have another computer which I can use.
I think I am still having trouble getting XP loaded. I will see later today.
I loaded XP not on SATA but IDE. It Formatted the HD then loaded the files when it closed
to reload and when it came on again I ejected the OS disc and it came up with an error.
I was so dismayed I did not take down the error, something about data I think.
So I Dbaned the HD again and try reinstall today. I will report back.
I am beginning to feel there is a problem in the Hard drive.

Hey Hugh - Yes, it is certainly beginning to sound as though the hard drive might be faulty.
Still, even if that turns out to be the case...you will have learned a little bit along the way mate.

Well thanks for all your help, only one word covers it FANTASTIC.
I have loaded XP ok, I just took the OS disc out too soon, I was impatient.
My new rebuilt computer is running great now, only old thing in it is the hard drive, hope it lasts a bit longer.
I have only one last question
Dave in his post told me to load bios as native IDE then load SATA drivers in windows later on. Where do I load them to, or does it only have to be in a folder on the hard drive then change the bios to ACHI and thats it.

Earlier you mentioned you did an install on an IDE drive, so my question is: Is the computer running on a SATA driver or IDE drive?
In either case you need to go to Gigabytes website and download and install all the drivers for XP from within the OS(chipset, video if it is onboard, etc).
If the drive is IDE I wouldn't change a thing and leave well enough alone.
If the drive is SATA you can go back into BIOS and try AHCI. If there is a problem and it won't boot just change it back.

It is a SATA drive which I changed to IDE in Bios.
Just need to know where to load the SATA drive
Floppy which you should load at F6 on XP set up.

Hugh -If everything is working tickety-boo, I would probably leave well enough alone.
However, if you still wish to install the SATA driver: Once you initiate installation by double clicking on the applicable .exe/setup file, the installer will automatically place the driver into the correct location for you.
Then, as Dave advised, when the installation has completed you will be asked to Restart the computer. After Restart and before the O.S. loads, go into BIOS and change that setting to AHCI, save the new setting and exit BIOS. The computer will then load the O.S....and away you go.

I thank you for all your help with Txtsetup.oem. But now I have a tricky one.
I am getting the blue screen and according what I found on the net yesterday
this is a bug with in ATI which is hard to solve.. The fault is
ati2dvag I tried one of the suggested cures, go into the control panel and
tried update driver, I did that and came back with "Cannot find a better driver"
Can you please help me again
I was wondering if the bios needs updating. I have never done this as it is a bit offputting that it may be worse than it was before it seems to me.

Did you go to the Gigabyte website and download all of the device drivers for the motherboard?

No I ran the disk which came with Motherboard but have since downloaded the ati drivers on Gigabytes web site still the same.
Would it be best to reinstall all from website, if so how do I delete all loaded from CD

The website will have the most current drivers, so it is best to download and install them by double clicking the downloaded files. As they are installed they replace any drivers currently being used.

Well I replaced the drivers which I could tonight, two asked if I wanted to replace existing drivers and I agreed, one does not open with a set up function, this is the same with the raid driver. Can you tell me the procedure for loading them.
I am thinking it might be better to reinstall xp again if you can explain the way to download the drivers manually that might be the best way.
