Help!!! I can't open my MS Word and Excel. I'm running XP Pro sp3 and had some trouble with my video card, so I replaced it. I can't figure out why that would be the problem. I get two (2) messages (MS Word cannot install the necessary files due to Windows Installer error 1601.) And then I get the message (MS Word has not been installed for the current user. Please run setup to install the application.)
I have tried to uninstall my whole XP Office Package to no avail. I get the message, (The Windows Installer could not be accessed. This can occur if you are Windows in the Safe Mode, or if the Windows Installer is not correctly installed. Contact your support personnel for assistance.)
I'm at my wits end trying to figure out what I'm doing wrong. Can any of you help?
Thanks in advance, Peteski Karczmarczyk

Wow.
Well, it sounds as though somehow your Windows Installer got corrupted or, as I like to say, FUBAR'd.
So first, make sure you're running as an administrator. Go to your Control Panel, select Add/Remove programs. From there uninstall Windows Installer (should be toward the bottom, mine is version 3.1, yours might be different).
From here: [url:6ihpoz9w]http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyId=889482FC-5F56-4A38-B838-DE776FD4138C&displaylang=en&displaylang=en[/url:6ihpoz9w] download a copy of Windows Installer.
Install, reboot, and ~poof~ everything should work again.
