You were right Marc ! A friend was having the same problem and he suggested I go to Windows Update and uninstall... 'Security' update KB3086255 then restart. I did it and now the games play fine. Hope this post will help someone that might be having the same problem.
I don't know if uninstalling is the best option. The KB article states this update is a prerequisite for future updates. Maybe the best option would be to run services.msc and start the service associated with secdrv.sys when you need it to run the game.

If auto updates are enabled then the update will come through again and install if it is not caught and hidden. The real problem wasn't the update but how it affected the secdrv.sys service.
