Communication Port in Device Manager .

Properties show the following message :-

Windows cannot determine the settings for this device. Consult the documentation that came with this device and use the Resource tab to set the configuration. (Code 34).

A Program I need to install uses Com ports .

How do I rectify this Problem ?

Regards

Flynne

Hello,

Not sure I can help a lot to solve this, but maybe I can help to ask the question, which in turn can help to find an answer.

In the devices manager, when I double click on a device, I see a properties dialogue box, with four tabs:
. General
. Drivers
. Details
. Events

(I translate from French, I do not suppose there is any problem with that.)

In the Events tab, for some devices (that happen to run very well) I see that they require their installation to be finished.

Is something like that the problem?

Did you try and launch the installation program that was provided with the device again?
Did it provide any interesting information?

I don't have an answer but I do have a question. I am new to this forum and I don't know how to create a topic. The topic is an issue with a new HP 23H2 laptop. Sometimes when I open the lid there is a blue screen with a message box that reads:

Boot Device Not Found
Please Install An Operating System For Your Hard Disk.
Hard Disk - (3F0)
F2 - System Diagnostics
For more information please visit the website or scroll the QR code:

I went to the website but it didn't tell me anything useful. A friend of mine, Uber Geek 33rd level, gave me a work around. Shut the power button off, turn it back on and hit the F12 button a few times and it will boot back up. That seems to work but the issue is that I shouldn't have this problem in the first place. I bought the laptop at Costco last November. My next move is to talk to their tech people and see if they can fix it. It's still under warranty.

Hey Jeff,

This sounds to me like a BIOS issue. Either the boot disk isn't listed as number one boot device or has perhaps been disabled. Please answer the following questions:

1) I'm assuming the laptop booted fine when you first bought it?
2) How long ago did this start happening?
3) Do you remember anything strange happening around the time this issue first started or do you remember making any changes around that time?

I suggest you go into BIOS and make sure that the boot disk is listed as number one boot device (elevate it to number one of it isn't already). And also make sure it hasn't been disabled somehow.

Tapping the F12 key in the manner you described should bring up a boot menu where you can choose which disk to boot from. If you could provide details of what's listed in the boot menu, that would be a big help.

Cheers... Jim
