Hi, and welcome to the DCT Forum.
Firefox maintains a record of browsing history in a file called places.sqlite which can be found in the following location:
C:\Users\\AppData\Roaming\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles
The easiest and best method to restore your Firefox browsing history would be to use System Restore to restore the system to an earlier time, before you ran the software that deleted the history.
Hope that helps.
Hi JIm
Sorry to say no it did not help.
I have looked at the System Restore and all it list's is the last time the ASRP was run with NO OTHER restore logs.
They is NO other restore file at all.
Regards the places.sqlite
Is his run every time firefox starts?
If so then the history is all missing on ALL my firefox profiles.
WHen ASRP run s and saves a system restorre where does it save them?
Also is there any where in ASRP to restore its restore points it makes?
thank you for your time
all it list's is the last time the ASRP was run
I installed ASRP in a VM (virtual machine) and the option to create a system restore point prior to applying the fixes is enabled by default. So, that restore point should take you back to a time before the changes were made by the software.
Please use that restore point to restore the system and, hopefully, your Firefox history will be restored.
Let me know how you get on.
PLEASE NOTE:
Advanced System Repair Pro is a typical "fix everything" scam in the same vein as Restoro: https://davescomputertips.com/is-restoro-legitimate/
The software scans the system and then reports fictitious issues. When the user then clicks to fix those issues, the software demands payment to do so.
Best to get rid of Advanced System Repair Pro: https://malwaretips.com/blogs/remove-advanced-system-repair-pro/
Hi Jim
you said
"Please use that restore point to restore the system and, hopefully, your Firefox history will be restored."
Sorry to say it did not put them back.
This why I ask does ASRP save more than one restore point OR does it delete the last one that is in winodws?
Becaue what i'm thinking is this
1...I had 4 restore points on my computer befor I ran ASRP
2...I ran ASRP the first time and it made a restore point.
3 I did not know at that time it had delete ALL my history files
4 I did a another run of ASRP and it made another restore point
NOW what I think has happed ASRP over wrote the last restore point with my history in and
Just put back the new version which had over wrote the history files.
so no matter how I restor from the last restor it will not put back my history files
WHY should it DELETE all my other dam restore files
I did see from firefox on google that you can get your history back from a file called INDEX.DAT BUT BUT ASRP has dam delete that file as well.
Regards the places.sqlite I made another profile in firefox and delete the old places.sqlite and put in the one where all my history shoul dhave been BUT it put back all the other things BUT no history.
I wish I had NEVER seen the dam program
Thank you for your time so far
OH BTW For some reason I have been locked out on my other computer and cannot get back in, any idea ?
"does ASRP save more than one restore point OR does it delete the last one that is in windows"
I have no idea, sorry. However, many of these system optimization type tools will look to free up space on the system drive and the easiest/quickest way to do that is to delete system restore points.
The places.sqlite file contains a record of your browser history. When Firefox automatically saves your history, it saves it to that places.sqlite file.
If the index.dat file is gone and you've replaced the places.sqlit file, I'm afraid your browser history is gone and unrecoverable.
I'm sorry you've had to go through this but at least it's been a learning experience. You now know to steer well clear of these tools that claim to optimize and fix everything.
"For some reason I have been locked out on my other computer"
Locked out how exactly? Have you forgotten your password or PIN? You'll need to explain that one in a bit more detail.
Hi Jim
Sorry for so long to get back to you.
"If the index.dat file is gone and you've replaced the places.sqlit file, I'm afraid your browser history is gone and unrecoverable."
Yes Index.dat no where to be seen, even done a recover with software and it did not list it.
Regards the placese.sqlit file.
No did not REPLACE it just renamed it and pasted anothe one from a the recover scan BUT when I run fire fox no history at all. BUT when I look in the folder it has list it as bad and replace with new one.
I have been in touch with ASR and they said , yes our program will delete ALL history and cannot get it back. We recomend you use your restore points to a early version.
I said you got to be joking as your program has DELETED ALL my restore points.
Not got backto me so far.
WHAT A MESS
