You have two problems going on here. Your own email server AND the receiving email server are going to have limits on the size of attachments. The chances that the limits are the same are not high, but getting better. The limits are set to prevent the email servers from bogging down as they have to process each attachment.

If you are sending a 10MB file and your email server has an outgoing limit of of 5MB you will probably get an error message back from your server and the email will not go through.
If you are sending a 10MB file and the receiving email server has an inbound limit of 5MB the email may go through, but with no attachment. You may also receive receive an error message from the server and the email not get through at all. To complicate things even further each emails server can have different settings for inbound and outbound. Smaller ISP's usually have smaller limits.

Todays limits are generally between 5MB and 20MB. Gmail is running about 25MB at the moment.

I assume you want to send them to Gmail as a backup. I also assume you have outlook set up to send/receive through your ISP email account. The simplest way is just to forward them from Outlook to the Gmail address. Outlook will cue them and send them as fast as it can(your upload speed is the deciding factor). As long as you have an internet connection and Outlook is open the files will be sent one at a time.

In Outlook you can select multiple emails by holding the ctrl key while you click on them. Then clicking forward will attach the selected emails to a new email you can send to your gmail address. This method will go through your ISP's mail server to the Gmail mail server and be limited by the attachment limit of your ISP and the 25MB limit of Gmail, whichever is smaller. If your ISP limit is 10MB you'll have to do each one separately.

Another option is to setup Gmail in outlook as an IMAP account. You'll need to go into your gmail account and in the settings enable IMAP. This method allows Outlook to work directly with your Gmail account. Your Gmail account will show in outlook, as will all folders/labels you've created in Gmail. This is a direct internet connection between Outlook and Gmail. Moving an email in Outlook will result in the exact same action in Gmail. Once it is setup you can just drag the emails from your current email account to a Gmail folder and they will be transferred to Gmail without going through your ISP's mail server. No forwarding! A little more work, but if you have a lot of attachments it will be simpler in the long run.

If you have the files stored on your computer you can use some software to send them directly to Gmail. Another option is the [url=http://www.viksoe.dk/code/gmail.htm:2simucw5]Gmail Drive[/url:2simucw5] application, which adds Gmail to your windows explorer. You can drag/drop file and they get uploaded to Gmail.

Not with IMAP. The email stays on the server and you interact with it through Outlook. Think of it as remote email.

Yes it is safe. The files go to Gmail. They show in the inbox.

I can't remember as it's been a while since I've used it, but at worst it would be 25MB PER FILE.
