Hi all:
Just FYI. I have learned from a friend of mine who is an IT Administrator for a large company in Colorado that MPC filled for bankruptcy last week.
Don't know if any of you deal with them or not, but a local tire company that I do computer work for has been having nothing but major trouble with them. When Gateway sold out, Micron/MPC took over the business side and Acer took the consumer/home user side. My customer bought a Gateway about 1 1/2 years ago and the motherboard was replaced about 9 or 10 months ago, now the motherboard has gone out again and my customer has had no response from MPC. He was told they would overnight him a new board and they would send a tech to install it because it was still under warranty, so I couldn't touch it. Well long story short they have never sent a board or a tech and he gets no phone calls returned from anyone in the company.
I just learned today of the bankruptcy, so guess that explains the non response from anyone at Micron/MPC. The issue is still up in the air, so if I learn more I will pass it along.
Dave, I hope this doesn't go against any rules for your forum. Just thought maybe it would keep someone from getting burned.
I work in the IT department of a college that has a lease agreement with MPC. Part of the agreement is that we are self maintenance. We order the replacement parts for MPC's site online and have not received the parts we have ordered for several weeks. MPC, about a week ago, sent an email to our Network Administrator stating that MPC has been put on hold by their shipping providers due to non-payment. I think that would explain the non-shipment of parts to others also.
Hi Ziggie:
You are oh so right about Gateway's proprietary parts. I was going to use the case, however, found that the motherboard was mounted on the left side of the case instead of the right side like every other case in the world. The heat sink mounted over the CPU and was screwed down to the motherboard and there was no fan. I was able to salvage a few other components (power supply, DVD, card reader, etc).
I know I won't be dealing with Gateway anytime soon.
When you call MCP now you get a recorded message tell you to go to there website about warranty info if you go there they do not tell you anything anyway. You would think that Gateway would take care of the warranty issues but they do not want to hear from anyone they just say call MCP. I have told all my friend and family NOT to buy any Gateway system. So far I have 5 in the repair drawer waiting. It is a shame.
