Hello everybody,

My sister (she uses a Mac) and I (using a WinXP Pro SP3 desktop) are in India while her daughter is in Canada (using a desktop). We can successfully videochat with each other 'individually' but as soon as we switch over to conference call, the video stops working and we can only hear each other talking. Is the Mac causing the problem here due to incompatibility or could it be something else?

Many thanks in advance for your advice.

Warm regards,
rtewary.

Hi rtewary - Are your sister and yourself living in the same house and sharing an internet connection?

It sounds as though an internet connection is struggling to keep up with the extra load once 3 people plus video are involved, and would do if two are sharing the same connection.

This all has to do with what sort of plans you are on with your service providers and what the connection speeds are. If someone is on a low to middling speed then these sorts of problems can occur naturally once internet connection sharing and/or video are thrown into the equation.....it is quite a common occurrence and not necessarily indicative of any other issues.

The fact that you can individually chat + video okay, suggests there are no problems with compatibility.

Cheers from Oz.....JIM

Actually I think this is a limitation of Skype itself. I've never been able to use video with more than 2 persons. Add a third and boom - voice only.

Jim, I think you were on the end of one of these calls. I had video up and when Ken jumped into the call it was gone. BTW, did you get a camera yet?

I went one better than that mate. I bought a brand new laptop complete with camera. microphone, et all.

It's running Windows 7 Pro, Skype is installed and it's all ready to go.....so, give me a buzz!!!!!!!

LOL
