An elderly friend of mine has been sucked in by one of these scams and has asked me for help !!!??? Whilst I am well aware of this problem, I haven't the faintest idea what to do once you've handed over all your details etc. Could someone please help me with this, so that in turn I can help my friend. Thanks so much.
Hi John
Are you saying that a friend of yours was phoned by someone purporting to be from Microsoft?
My advice would be for your friend to NOT allow any third party access to either his personal details or his PC, ever.
If he has handed over credit card details, he should cancel his card and arrange with his card company to help him if he has been conned out of any cash.
This is a common scam and is known about.
Take a look here http://www.wired.co.uk/news/archive/2013-04/11/malwarebytes
Let us know if we can be of any further help.
Cheers
Marc
