Installed BD Free on a new install, as requested by a customer/relative, all went well, it updated and told me I have 29 days left. When I went to register I got an error message saying, "the connection to the server failed, product cannot activate". Any ideas since there's only 29 days and counting left ? BD Free is all they ever use and they really want to keep it.

Have you tried to reboot the PC to reset the network adapter? It works with mine sometimes and other times I have to reset my modem manually.

Hi Claw - Good to hear from you mate.

Are you able to to connect via a different browser? If using Firefox, try connecting in no add-on mode. Same with Chrome, try disabling add-ons/extensions.

I like Bitdefender free myself but having to create an account in order to keep it working put me off.

P.S. Have you heard anything from or of Marko? We were chatting away via email and then he just disappeared.

Cheers... Jim

Hey Jim, what's up buddy ? I'll give your ideas a try and let you know what happens. Jim,I keep in touch with FS and Jonno the most (email, facebook) but I haven't heard anything from Marko, but I'll try and track him down and see what turns up. I'm just wondering what happens after the time limit runs out, do they reinstall ? I left in the the machine so I could check it daily and see if it ever connects to the server. I'll keep in touch on what I find out. And thanks Jim, whether it works or not, I knew I could count on you to take a shot at it. Get back to you soon buddy.

Oh, that's right, it tries to connect/activate from within the program, I'd forgotten that... silly me!

Try signing in to your relative's Bitdefender account via the browser, here: https://my.bitdefender.com/login

Then see if it will activate. If he is unable to sign in to his account through the browser, then he is probably using an incorrect email address or password.

If not activated within the 29 days, it will then automatically switch off real time protection until it is activated. No need to re-install.

dandl, nothing wrong with the network, BD is the only program with the problem.

Jim, this may take a little time because they're using the computer to finish some class work, so I'll try as soon as they're finished.

No problem, glad it is all connected to the BD program. Never have used Bitdefender.

Yep, me too dandl.

Jim that didn't work, so I formatted and installed xp on that old xp box I had that I use to do test on, After all the updates were installed I installed Chrome, Opera and Firefox. I used each one to download and try to register BD, but each time I still got the error message so I'm keeping it on that box and will try everyday to see if it corrects itself. I'll keep y'all posted.

Claw, are you getting that message when trying to sign up or login via the site I linked to earlier?

Jim, I just downloaded and installed it on my sons old laptop. After BD installs the user interface pops up with a box next to it to either make an account or sign in an existing account, but the problem is that when the box popped up it had ERROR in big red letters and the error message on it. No way to login. If you wait and click the login button on the interface, the box pops up saying the same thing. I've had enough. I'm leaving it on my sons laptop because he never uses it anymore, and I'm going to check it everyday.

Ok Claw, This is what I have found out about Bitdefender Free AV. I downloaded and installed BD Free in Windows XP and I get the same notification about the unable to connect to server as you are getting. After further research I find out that BD Free is a 30 day trial install. In other words in 29 days we can either buy BD or uninstall BD and move on to another free AV. So the BD install you have will be good for 29 days.

Daniel, I'm pretty sure that is not correct. I've installed BD Free a number of times on a number of machines.

Real time protection starts as soon as the install has completed. However, real time protection is associated with a BD account, so new users are given 29 days grace in which to create a BD account and log-in. If they do not do this within the allotted time, real time protection will be switched off until they do.

I know what you are saying Jim is correct and I only installed BD to see if I could get it to work but I am not the only one having this issue with BD. Do you think BD would set the free version to not connect and activate. I gave it my best try and I do know how to uninstall BD. I am tired of working with it tonight. If you have any other ideas please fill free to share. Thanks Daniel.

Hey guys, I'm removing it off my computer, but leaving it on the laptop to see what eventually happens. I let y'all know if anything changes.

dandl, you can uninstall BD from the add/remove or program and features but the easiest way is stroll down to the 3rd row all the way to the right side, and click Bitdefender Free Edition uninstall tool. Get it here :

Thanks, it is already gone. I do not have the time to try and run software that does not work. I have installed a free version of the Panda AV and it runs very well.
