Hey Madala - There is no definitive answer to your question mate, comes down to personal preferences really.
*There is very little difference in features and picture quality. PS3's make for very good Blu-ray players.
*Most brand name Blu-ray players also include the ability to update the firmware.
Personally, I would not go for 3D anyway. My eldest son forked out for 3D TV plus 3D player and is frustrated by the lack of 3D disks available. Seems a lot of extra cash to outlay just to view the odd movie in 3D. That situation may be different in other countries.
Pricing and preferences, they are key. If you enjoy playing the PS3 games too then I would definitely go PS3. If playing the games is not a consideration then, based on price comparisons here, I would tend to go for the stand-alone player.
