Fix E1:26 And 8888 On Cable Box

The power has been blinking on and off all morning. A woman called because she was getting an error on her TV screen after the power came back on. It would first say E126 and then 8888.

I believe she is still using a “Motorola DCX” series cable box.

I searched for “error 126” and “e126” and came across an article for an “E1:26” error.

The fix was simple. Unplug the power to the cable box. Wait for about 5 minutes, then plug it back in. Wait a few minutes for everything to get ready, and then try it. She waited 10 minutes and everything is working again.

If this doesn’t work, then a call to the cable company would be in order because the cable box might be damaged.

The 8888, as I understand it, is just a reboot code.

Where is the power cord to the cable box located. I am having the same problem that you described in the article including no single to the tv. Thank You Mary Lou

Usually plugged into the back. It’s the one that plugs your cable box into the power outlet on the wall of your house.
