Mozilla recently announced that the next Firefox version (149) will include a free VPN and Split View feature. Firefox 149 will start rolling out on 24th March 2026.
Firefox’s New Free VPN
Firefox’s new free VPN, which includes 50GB of data per month, will initially be available for users in the US, France, Germany, and the UK, with more regions to follow.
Firefox’s New Split View
Firefox 149 will also include a new “Split View” feature, allowing two webpages to be displayed side-by-side in a single window, making it far easier to compare products, pricing, and other elements without switching between tabs.
Firefox Features – Coming Soon
Tab Notes: adds the ability to attach notes to individual tabs, providing a lightweight way to track context while multitasking. The feature will be available in Firefox Labs 149 from 24th March.
Settings & Navigation: a redesigned Settings section with improved navigation and search to make customization easier is coming to Firefox Nightly starting in April, ahead of a broader release.

BOTTOM LINE:
Firefox’s popularity has dropped off in recent times, but it still retains a large group of dedicated users. One of the reasons for its popularity has been Firefox’s ongoing implementation of privacy measures, and the introduction of a free VPN can only add to that appeal.

The VPN would be a nice welcomed added feature , a 50 GB a month cap should be fine for normal use.
I would assume most of us already use some sort of VPN be it paid or free but it would be nice to switch it up every now and then
Hi Jim. Seems we will have to wait, as our countries were not included.
This free 50GB with split screen is definitely something worth considering, Mindblower!
