****DCT Exclusive****

DCT is proud to announce that, courtesy of BillP Studios, we have 5 LIFETIME licenses for the legendary WinPatrol Plus to give away to our subscribers. The licenses would normally sell for $29.95usd but you now have a chance to win one completely free by simply submitting a reply to this article…Thank you Bill!!

There are not too many products which deserve endorsements such as ‘legendary’ and ‘venerable’, but for WinPatrol those accolades are entirely appropriate. WinPatrol has been part of my staple security setup for so long I can’t even remember when I first started using it, it is one of the ‘must have’ programs of all time.

WinPatrol is the trailblazer in employing heuristics (behavioral) based protection, the innovator in its field and yet still remains remarkably light on resources. Which makes WinPatrol the perfect partner to augment traditional definition based anti-virus software and provide that extra layer of protection. I’ll quote from the WinPatrol home page because, quite frankly, I could not put it more accurately nor succinctly than Bill himself:

You don’t have to be doing anything wrong on the Internet to become a casualty of malware. WinPatrol takes snapshot of your critical system resources and alerts you to any changes that may occur without your knowledge. WinPatrol was the pioneer in using a heuristic behavioral approach to detecting Zero-Day attacks and violations of your computing environment. WinPatrol continues to be the most powerful system monitor with a small memory footprint so you won’t even know it’s running.

WinPatrol’s easy tabbed interface allows you to explore deep inside your computer without having to be a computer expert. A one-time investment in WinPatrol PLUS provides a unique experience you won’t find in any other software. WinPatrol works and plays well with others so it will complement any popular AntiVirus program scanner you currently use. The difference is you’ll never have to pay ever again for our PLUS enhancement.

In addition to the monitoring, of course, is WinPatrol’s outstanding management console which provides a means for users to easily identify and control startup items and running processes:

  1. WinPatrol to me is like a living example sheriff in town, who are always willing to come in any situation, please count me in

  2. I recently had two problems that Norton did not pick up. One was a “you are the 1,000,000 visitor. Click to collect your prize” which keeps appearing at odd times, and the other a Western Digital backup service that starts and hogs all the memory. It made me think that maybe you need more than a traditional anti virus. I could spend hours searching the web for a fix for both these problems, but sometimes the cure is worse than the disease. You end up doing a registry hack and causing bigger problems. It would be great to have a program that picked up what Norton misses. Look forward to trying out WinPatrol.

  3. Win Patrol free is a great program, even better is the PRO for free.. Count me in for the opportunity to get the PRO for free.

  4. Thanks for the WinPatrol Plus giveaway.
WinPatrol Plus is my favourite complementary protection software which got no impacts on system resources.
    Please count me in.

    Thanks.

  5. My favorite program! Been using it for many years but can never afford to buy it.
I would be thrilled to win a license for it.
It has been the most useful tool for any ones computer and no one should ever be with out it.
I will keep my fingers crossed for this one!
    Thanx for the chance.

  6. this program is exceptional and not consume too much memory resources and not affect the functioning of the operating system.
great opportunity to win a lifetime license.

  7. I have the free version & I think it’s great…but I would like the pro version which I understand is more complete.
    Thanks, Daimon~

  8. Thanks you for the giveaway.

    Regards

  9. Would like to take part in the giveaway. WinPatrol is a perfect solution to complement my antivirus to provide all round security for my pc. Thanks.

  10. WInPatrol is a great light weight HIPS security product and a great start-up manager – a must on all computers – please count me in the draw for WInPatrol Plus!

  11. WinPatrol is a historical program for Windows, has existed for many years and continues to be updated and useful even in its free version.
The latest version of WinPatrol is 2011 and is compatible with XP, Vista and Windows 7.
Although the paid commercial version has some very useful free version is fully functional and complete for total control of what happens on the computer and to protect against malicious software or files.
WinPatrol is very light, you can download in Italian (the download page, scroll down) and very similar to another popular program like Autoruns, which is used to control startup entries very useful when Windows starts slowly.
Compared to Autoruns however, WinPatrol offers a more complete control of the computer on the activity and, above all, it is much easier to use and understand.

WinPatrol should launch itself after the install and you see the icon in the lower right corner near the clock.
When started, WinPatrol runs in the background checking the permissions of the programs on the Internet, launch automatic.
Pressing the right button of mouse on the icon, you can open the interface of WinPatrol which is composed of various control sheets.
The first tab lists the programs that start automatically with Windows.
In Win Patrol, pressing the right button on an entry, you can decide whether to remove them, or even delay the launch.
Delaying the start of a program running completely automatic means to load Windows and after that it automatically start the process or software, thus avoiding bottlenecks that are created.
Removal does not mean uninstall the program but only prevent its automatic loading.
The other tabs are rather useful security controls.
Especially useful are those relating to IEHelpers to see and remove any extensions or toolbars (in general are called BHO, Browser Helper Object does not help that slow down Internet Explorer (Internet Explorer 9 has an integrated control that would avoid such problems).
Also useful is the monitoring of scheduled tasks often used by viruses to perform regular activities.

Win Patrol offers an option to launch a control card for each object so as to detect any abnormalities.
Also active with WinPatrol alerts you may receive or not to authorize the change of some configurations of Windows including:
    – Installation of new Windows services,
    – The creation of scheduled tasks,
    – Changes to the file type associations,
    – New ActiveX components,
    – Changes to the Hosts file,
    – Changes to home pages and the search provider in Internet Explorer,
    – Changes in the update automatically and in the control of the Windows user.
From the options tab you can enable or disable the automatic monitoring and automatic startup can set WinPatrol to keep it running.
WinPatrol is very light and takes up little memory on Windows and is useful to have a global control system and the hidden activities of a computer.

Thanks a lot and I hope to win.

  12. It must be serendipity! I was just reading about what a great program WinPatrol is and have downloaded it to try out the free version when I received your email with an offer to win the Pro version.
Sounds like a terrific deal so count me in and thanks for organizing it.

  13. I have been using Malwarebyetes and AVG Free. I am looking forward to WinPatrol Plus and not having to renew an annual subscription.

  14. I have used WinPatrol free edition in the past. It is a great little program to have in your security arsenal. It would be really great to own the full featured Plus edition. I am very security minded when it comes to computers. I currently have a rather large arsenal of programs to use.
    1. Avast Free antivirus
    2. Zonealarm free
    3. Advanced System Care 5
    4. CCleaner
    5. Glary Utilities
    6. Jetclean
    7. Malware Bytes anti malware
    8. Slimcomputer
    9. Spybot Search and Destroy
    10. SUPERAntiSpyware Free Edition
    11. Virus Effect Remover
    12. Microsoft Baseline Security Analyzer

I keep the antivirus and firewall running always, and then once a week I fire up the rest and run them. Also about once a month I run a start up scan with my antivirus program.
