Every storage device has a finite lifespan – unfortunately – and the common hard drive and SSD are no exception to this rule. Fortunately for us both devices can be monitored for signs of failure using S.M.A.R.T. (Self Monitoring, Analysis, and Reporting Technology) and everyone should have a tool to do so in their virtual tech toolbox. Hard Disk Sentinel is one of those tools.

HDSentinel’s software monitors the S.M.A.R.T. data, temperature, and performance of your drives and presents it in an easy to understand manor visually, or by email. Hard Disk Sentinel Professional also allows the user to run seek, surface, and extended tests on drives and, should conditions indicate a failing drive , perform an emergency backup of critical files! You can use Hard Drive Sentinel to find out the present condition of a drive in real time, or to monitor drive(s) over time which allows you to see drive conditions trends before a failure causes loss of data.

Hard Disk Sentinel (HDSentinel) is a multi-OS SSD and HDD monitoring and analysis software. Its goal is to find, test, diagnose and repair hard disk drive problems, report and display SSD and HDD health, performance degradations and failures. Hard Disk Sentinel gives complete textual description, tips and displays/reports the most comprehensive information about the hard disks and solid state disks inside the computer and in external enclosures.

Hard Disk Sentinel Professional

When you open Hard Disk Sentinel Professional you will see the main window, which will present an overview of all the drives installed on your computer along with temperature and health ratings from drives which provide that information. .

Clicking the Temperature tab will show temperature details for whichever drive you select in the left column. You can also set thresholds from here that will trigger notifications or perform other actions chosen by you.

The following tab shows the raw S.M.A.R.T. data from the drive selected in the left column and allows you to ignore or adjust how the program uses the data.

The information tab shows detailed information about the selected drive including controller, model, size, and much more!

The Logs tab shows any problems logged since the program was installed. Luckily everything looks good on my computer!

The Disk Performance tab allows you to see Read and Write performance of the selected drive.

Finally the Alerts tab shows any alerts for the selected drive the program has read that could be cause for alarm.

This is just a small sample of Hard Disk Sentinel’s features. In addition to the above it can conduct thorough self testing of drives, surface tests, seek time tests, emergency backup of critical files, and much much more! Hard Disk Sentinel Professional is suitable for both the common home user and serious computer tech. Easy to use. Easy to understand. What more can you ask of a tool that everyone should have in the tech toolbox?

I am retired, computers have been my hobby for many years.
Hard Disk Sentinel Professional is installed on all my systems and has been with me longer than I can remember.
This program has saved hardware and data many times by warning me of dangerous situations well in advance of failure.
Hard Disk Sentinel Professional recently alerted me of a faulty SSD installed in a new custom built system.
Each of my systems has multiple external hard drives in docking stations, they are constantly monitored by Hard Disk Sentinel Professional.
Yes, it has proven one of my better investments.

Just had problems with a new 120GB SSD – sure could have used this program – Count me in and Thanks – – – Shorto

  5. My laptop seems to be having some problems lately with longer restarts and freezing. This program may be just what I need to help me solve my problem.

  6. It looks a very comprehensive programme, good to have. Especially when running multiple drives. Would like to own this.

  7. I want to win this software to better monitor my Mom’s laptop, especially to monitor his temperature. Great contest. Please count me in. 🙂

  8. Thanks for this offer . I have checked out the Trial Version This could be the motherboard raid implementation as I have yet to find a hard disk monitoring program that will work on the raid. I found that the Hard Drive Sentinel gave very detailed information on all drives are provided excellent monitoring data on those it could monitor.
I must say that this software looks great. It provides in depth detail of the hard drive, and is very user friendly – indicating which parameters are checked and are OK or need attention. the temperature indicator is very handy and I like the rich history and information that is available for most of the tabs. This is indeed a very handy tool!
    Thanks

I cannot comment on Hard Drive Sentinel based on my personal experience (there is none) , but I can say that after reading today’s blog and looking at the screen shots, it appears to be a very well thought-out program and one that any experienced computer user needs. Please include my name in your drawing, and Thank You!

  10. Thanks a lot Dear Dave.
I like to have this Software indeed! Why? Because it’s very powerful in monitoring our Disk and also it’s ability to provide detail information also it’s Alert Feature is really cool stuff!
    Please count me in too..

  11. @Alex19100:

did you use Report -> Send test report to developer option in the trial version of HDS?
I did it before and the developer quickly suggested a driver update from the Support -> Driver Zone at the website of hdsentinel.com
Lots of motherboards with integrated RAID controllers supported in HDS, just you may need to update drivers.

  12. Thanks for the chance to own a very useful software which preserve precious data from hdd failure.

  13. Wow. What a great sounding program.
Having to maintain 6 to 8 HDs is a nervous part of my job.
I have no idea of their condition. After one disastrous episode
my blood pressure peaks at the slightest “hiccup”.
Please consider me a participant in this drawing.
    Thanks for the opportunity.

  14. Wow Dave, this is great. I would love to have a programme such as HD Sentinel on my machine. I would make very good use of it. Count me in, Thanks

  15. It is a great software. And since you can select that the data are stored in a folder and not in the registry it is even better. Works with Intel RAID and all USB drives I have.

  16. been using the dos boot disk version for some time now & found it very handy. would be great to have a play with the full windows based version as I would like to test it for deployment to customers as an early detection tool for HDD failure.

  17. I have Been With Computers For many years, I have seen many disasters in big company’s as well as end users I have looked for many years to try find some softwear that will give you the statistics of your drive even tried to write my own but HARD DISK SENTENEL is something else and as it describes in the article above it has everything you could want from graphs to spinup count to temperature even extensive hard disk tests i would recommend to anyone who is concerned from heat and want to no bout temperatures to buissinesses

  18. In the past 4 months I have had 2 hard drives die. Fortunately, I did not lose too much data. If I had HD Sentinel I probably would not have lost any data. Hopefully, I will be one of the lucky Twenty.
