Visit Exotic Locations Without Ever Leaving Home

Okay, so it’s not quite the same as actually being there, but considering how just about everything else, from shopping and banking to chatting and dating, can be done online, why not sightseeing as well?

The name of the site is TravelByDrone, and the people behind it have aggregated drone-shot YouTube videos from all over the World into a simple yet innovative new “virtual travel” website.

Want to see Paris by night, remote Australia, or fly through the Grand Canyon, all this and much, much more can be done via these terrific aerial videos.

The site opens to a World map with locations marked by identifying numbers. Navigating around the map is very simple and similar to Google Maps.  Just click on a number to access a more concentrated view, or you can look up a specific location via the search feature:

I watched several videos and found myself totally absorbed, in the end I had to tear myself away… she who must be obeyed having presented me with one of those dreaded ‘lists’ earlier. I’ll definitely be going back though, got a lot of virtual traveling to do yet. It may not be quite the real thing but it’s probably as close as I’ll ever get.

Here’s just a sample to whet the appetite – Cradle Mountain in Tasmania:

This is one place I’ve actually been and just wanted to share with you.

If you find yourself with some time to spare and looking for a change from the usual distractions, I think you’ll find TravelByDrone a worthwhile experience.

  1. Thanks for the link Jim. Very impressive indeed. With more people upgrading to larger and larger screens, I believe this birds eye view is awesome and breathtaking. There was another copter experience I enjoyed inside a winery and over Niagara Falls. Seem to have misplaced it. As you said, it’s not the same as actually being there (missing the smell), Mindblower!

  2. Every once in awhile someone comes up with a site or link that is a fascinating experience. You just did that Jim. For some reason this reminds me of an experience at Epcot called “Soaring.” Great find, thanks. (¯`·._.·ns¢ävË·._.·´¯)®
