Next Tomb Raider Game To Be Announced At The 2025 Game Awards?

With all the turmoil surrounding the Tomb Raider franchise over the last few years, we had almost given up hope of a new adventure for Lara Croft. Layoffs at Crystal Dynamics and Amazon, Embracer, the owner of Crystal Dynamics, closing studios left, right, and centre, and the appalling TR spin-offs on Netflix and mobile phones. But now there’s a ray of sunshine, or so it seems, because The Game Awards posted this on X.

As just revealed in our The Game Awards Vote in Fortnite map portal, tune in Thursday night for a look at the future of one of gaming’s most iconic franchises

Tomb Raider Remake?

Naturally, this has sent the Tomb Raider community into a tailspin of euphoria in spite of the fact that the cryptic message only tells of an announcement that will take a look at the Tomb Raider franchise. Will it be a new game to follow Shadow of the Tomb Raider, which was released in September 2018? Or will it be a remake of the original Tomb Raider (1996)? Or both? The Game Awards take place on Thursday, December 11 at 19.30 EST and can be watched live on YouTube.

I’m cautiously optimistic for a new game, with a few caveats. Back in 2022, it was announced that the next game would be made with Unreal Engine 5, and later, that Amazon Games would be publishing the next game. Since then, no further news on the game, but we did have to endure the animated Legend of Lara Croft on Netflix, a pinball game, a mobile game, and Lara appearing in Fortnite and other games, with the TR IP being milked mercilessly.

Let’s just hope that a serious announcement of a non-PC, non-woke Tomb Raider game will be revealed on Thursday. I hope I’m right.

(Editor note: This article is a bit dated, and that’s entirely my fault.)
