How To Recover, Restore Outlook Items

You have painstakingly completed a lengthy email to be sent to all your colleagues and you are about to send it out when you get a phone call. Turns out this was a rather lengthy phone call and when you return to your keyboard, thinking you have already sent out your missive, you delete it. Oh no! What have I done! You can almost feel the upset when you read that right?

The good news is that when/if you accidentally delete your Outlook items (i.e., calendar appointments, email messages, tasks, etc.), you can recover them in your Deleted Items or Junk Email folders. You can, in some cases, recover items even after your Deleted Items have been emptied!

Follow the steps below to learn how:

When you are looking for a deleted item, the first place to look for something such as a calendar appointment or email, etc, is your Deleted Items folder.

If you do not find it there, it is possible that you could still recover what you are looking for, depending on the version of Outlook you are using.

If you are using Outlook 365:

  1. Select your Deleted Items or Junk Email folder.
  2. If folders are hidden, select the Show Navigation Pane icon.
  3. Select the item or items you would like to restore by hovering over it and selecting the checkbox next to it.
  4. On the Home tab of your Ribbon, select Move.
  5. Select a folder from the list, or if you like, select Move to a different folder, and you can then select a location from the full folder list.
  6. You can also drag messages to other folders, or right-click and select Restore.

There will be more on this subject in another post.
