It is amazing to me how many things you can use your smartphone for these days. I am trying to educate myself about all the very cool things that can be done so that my daughter and her husband will not roll their eyes when I ask how to accomplish something using my phone. Honestly, they are very good about teaching me what I need to know. I am learning that you really just need to look around your smartphone and you can usually find what you want.
I looked on the Web to learn how to use my phone to measure something and I did find several articles that covered that. The problem was that it just told me to use the Measure app. Ok, great, what Measure app and where do I find it? I searched my phone up and down and could not find it, so then I went where I always do – to my son-in-law, who patiently shows me how to do these things and it turns out if you swipe down on your phone, you can find the Measure app or you can go to the App store if you do not already have it. I had done that as well, but it had several Measure apps and I wasn’t sure which one to download. My son-in-law to the rescue! So now that I have been educated I will endeavor to pass this knowledge on to you!
(Ed note: It is called The Measure App on the App Store.)
Follow the steps below to learn how:
First of all, you should know that for best results, you should use Measure on well-defined objects located approximately 0.5 to 3 meters (2 to 10 feet) from your phone.
Note: Measure works on external displays without mirroring.
- Once you have opened or downloaded and opened Measure, use your iPhone camera to slowly scan nearby objects.
- Place your Phone so that the object you would like to measure appears on your screen.
You will notice when you use Measure, that a green dot appears at the top of your screen to indicate your camera is in use.
Below are different ways to take your measurements.
