Last week, we talked about how to set the Facebook Default Audience. If you missed that one, here is the link to it:
How To Set Facebook Default Audience
This week, I wanted to stick with social media platforms but with a different one. There are many social platforms, and this week I will talk about Instagram. I recently posted a video, and it went a little viral (at least to me), with 1.2 million views. I had to brag a little, people. It brought attention to my post and also many new followers, which in turn brought lots of comments that I did not appreciate. It got me thinking. I wish I could limit how others can interact with me on comments, messages, tags, and other ways. So, I researched how to do this, and I’m here to share that knowledge with you. Before we jump into our lesson, make sure to check out these other articles I have written:
- How To Check Your TikTok Account Status

Now that that is out of the way, it is time to start the class.
How To Limit Interactions On Instagram
This will be shown on my Motorola Edge Android phone using the app.
Step 1: Find the Instagram app on your device and tap it.
Step 2: On the home screen, look to the bottom right. You will see your Profile image. Tap it.
Step 3: On your Profile page, look to the top right. There you will see the Menu link (3 horizontal lines). Tap it.
Step 4: This will to the Account Menu screen. Scroll down until you see the section called “How others can interact with you.” In this section you will find Limit interactions. Tap it.
Step 5: We are now on the Limit Interactions screen. Here, they give you some choices to adjust this before you turn it on:
Limit interactions from people who are bothering you – Temporarily limit people’s ability to interact with you through messages, comments, tagging and more
That is what this will do but let me go over each one that you can adjust before activating this feature.
Step 6: The first one you will tap on is “What will be limited.” You are given two options here:
- Some Interactions – New Comments on your content and chats from accounts you limit will be hidden
- Most Interactions – Tags, mentions, story replies, and content remixing will be turned off. New comments on your content and chats will also be hidden
Tap the box for the one you wish to select. On to the next option…
Step 7: The next one is “Who will be limited,” and they offer a few options here:
- Everyone but your Close Friends – Accounts not on your Close Friends list
- Recent followers – Accounts that started following you in the past week or after you turned this on
- Accounts that don’t follow you
Tap the switch to the right of the one you wish to turn on or off. Now, on to the last option they offer here.
Step 8: This last option is “When we’ll remind you to turn this off.
- Set Reminder – We’ll check in to see if you want to turn this tool off, or if you want to add more time
They give you days or weeks to choose from to remind you. Select how long you want to set it for and then tap Done in the top right corner.
Step 9: Time to tap the on button at the bottom.
We won’t let people know you’ve turned this on.
After tapping the on button, you are all set. DONE!
Now you know how to limit those people on your Instagram account. Time to share your new knowledge with everyone.
