Last week, we covered how to manage Data Usage on Instagram. If you missed that one, here it is:
How To Manage Data Usage On Instagram
This week, I wanted to stay on this platform and show another helpful feature. ‘What is that?’ you might ask. While playing around on Instagram, I noticed that other users can share my posts/reels. That got me thinking, what if I don’t want them to share my posts or reels? So, like I always do, I researched and figured out how to disable that feature on your account. Now that I have learned how I can do this, I wanted to share that new knowledge with you. Before we jump into the lesson for the week, make sure to check out these other articles that I have written recently:

Now that you have caught up, it is time to start class. Pull out those mobile devices and let’s get started.
How To Disable Post Sharing On Instagram
This will be shown on my Motorola Edge Android phone using the app.
Step 1: Find the app on your device and tap it.
Step 2: Once on the app, look to the bottom right for your Profile link. Tap it.
Step 3: Now that you are on your Profile screen, look to the top right. Tap the 3 horizontal lines.
Step 4: From this next screen, look for the section named “How others can interact with you.” Under this section, find Sharing and reuse and tap it.
Step 5: Under the Sharing and reuse screen at the top, you will see the section called Allow people to share your content. Then you have some choices:
- Post and reels to stories
- Stories in messages
- Repost on posts and reels
These are straightforward to toggle off or on by tapping the switch to the right of the one you wish to change. Tap it. On to the other sections of this screen.
Step 6: The next part you need to look at is Allow people to create with and reuse your content:
- Posts
- Reels
When these are on, anyone can create with all or part of your posts and reels in remixes, sequences, templates or stickers and download your content as of their post or reel…… (Read more on the settings screen)
Tap the switch to the right of the options to disable them. The last two I want to cover are Downloads and Website embeds.
Step 7: These two are important since you might not want them sharing your stuff on Instagram.
Allow people to share externally:
When this in on, anyone can download your public reels… (Read more on Instagram settings)
Tap the switch to the right of the Downloads to disable. The other option is Website embeds, where you can tap the circle to the right of the on or off to disable that. DONE!
Now you know how to keep people from sharing your posts and reels on or off Instagram. Time to share your new knowledge with the world.
