First of all, this information does not pertain only to Outlook. It also is relevant for Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
Ok, now that that is out of the way, let’s move on. As you know, you can create links to new files or to ones that have been on your computer for ages. These links can be added to locations in documents, and email addresses. You can also edit them as you would anything else.
The quickest way to create a rather basic hyperlink in your document is to press Enter or your Space bar once you have keyed in the address of an existing webpage (i.e. www.carolscorneroffice.com). Office will automatically convert the address to a link for you.
If you wish to create a hyperlink within your document, follow the steps below:
- Select the text or image that you would like to display as a hyperlink
- Press CTRL + K (you can also, if you prefer, right-click on your text or picture and click Link on the shortcut menu)
- Now, in the Insert Hyperlink box that appears, key in or paste your link in the Address area
- If you do not see the Address box, be certain the Existing File or Web Page is selected under Link to
- You can also, if you like, key in your own text to display for your link in the Text to display area
- Should you not know the web address for your hyperlink, simply click the Browse the Web icon, navigate to the URL on the Internet, copy and paste it
That is basically how it is done!
Oops! I told you how to add hyperlinks, but I neglected to add the part about removing them! Yes, I am mortal, and make mistakes like everyone else on this planet, I confess. Mea culpa and I promise to do better in the future!
So without further ado, let me tell you how to remove hyperlinks.
Follow the steps below to learn how:
To remove a single hyperlink:
- Right-click the hyperlink you would like to remove.
- In the context menu that appears, select Remove Hyperlink or Remove Link.
To remove all hyperlinks:
- Press Ctrl + A to select all.
- Press Ctrl + Shift + F9. All hyperlinks (and other fields) will be converted to text.

You are absolutely right! If I were not so embarrassed, I would be laughing at myself. What a gaffe! Seems like someone should have caught that right? That’s what happens when you proof your own work!

The auto insertion of a hyperlink by entering a space immediately thereafter, stopped working for me following an update????. My Configuration is: Win 10 Pro using Office 365 Outlook/Word/etc.
Specifically, I’m referring to the paragraph above that says as follows:

I’ve wasted over an hour trying to figure this out but many of the suggestions are outdated or are unavailable on the software I have installed???? Again it worked perfectly for years up until a few weeks ago after and update.
I will appreciate any help you can provide

Sorry for the delay. I have been having my own computer issues of late and have been trying to unravel them as well.
I am not certain what update you made that would change Word like and it is quite impossible for me to give you an answer . Also, I am not sure what you are keying in and expecting to be converted to a hyperlink, so that also keeps me from giving you the answer you are seeking.
I am sorry that I cannot fix this for you. Perhaps more information would enable me to help you.
