Advanced Micro Devices (AMD) released the Athlon 64 x2 Dual-Core 4200+, 4400+, 4600+, and 4800+ processors.

Dual-core processors contain two processors on a single piece of silicon and give users improved performance. Up until this time, most desktop and server processors had a single core.
