In 2007,I remembered a while back MS said there was going to be no SP3, maybe just a bunch of rollups called a SP. They basically said you'll have to go for Vista. I can't believe that MS will release a SP4 for WinXP as they put all efforts in prmoting the new Windows 7 by now.
Surprisingly, found since last year in Registry that HKLMSoftwareMicrosoftUpdatesWinXP with SP4 folder with more than 70 updates packed up to present moment.
This happened that same as SP3 folder with updates found in 2007.
So its quite sticky that SP4 will be released ? or MS still not find the right time to reveal ? or not worth to go further SP for the endless WinXP copy?

[b:191h618h]IF[/b:191h618h] there is an SP4 for XP I would only count on the service pace being a bundling of all updates between SP3 and the release. It's possible, actually probable, but not much to get excited about!

Yes, it's true.
As a matter fact, the SP4 is in system already & we just wait & see if MS will reveal afterwards any final destiny of XP.

Highly unlikely. My money would be on no SP4.

If there actually is one released (which I seriously doubt) it would more than likely only be a roll-up of all previous updates anyway.....nothing new.

Cheers....Jim

Microsoft should reward it's faithful followers with continual updates - without resorting to cut-off dates. Not everyone can afford to update their operating systems each time a new version comes out. Actually I'm willing to bet that there are still some Windows 98 users out there who must feel really out in the cold without continuing support from Microsoft. Come on MS, don't be mean; you've already made a packet out of your customers!

There's been a lot of debate about that, and frankly I think MS has handled it reasonably. They simply cannot be expected to provide security updates for a product forever after its release, when there are newer versions that have those fixes in place. I think their philosophy of supporting the last two OS's plus the current is more than fair.

After all, Windows 98 is 12 years old at this point. There has to be a point at which they cut off active support for it.

Now, when they stop supporting XP, if they don't keep their activation servers up [i:3rs0w1bz]indefinitely[/i:3rs0w1bz] then there will be a public outcry. It was their choice to require their software to check in, after purchase, they should continue to allow you to use the software you purchased.

/rant.

Thanks.

No..caz SP-4 would mean MS is still willing to support XP. While truth is they r already bogged down by Vista and W7. Office-2010 is round the corner, so they have no time for any XP SP-4. However expect soon W7-SP-1
