Hey Shirl - I think what you are talking about is the Zoom icon in Internet Explorer. It is part of the Status Bar.

Open Internet Explorer and look to the top right hand side of the browser window and you will see a group of icons and then [b:bidwpjjr]Page, Safety, Tools[/b:bidwpjjr].

Click on "Tools" and a menu will appear. Hover the mouse cursor over [b:bidwpjjr]Toolbars[/b:bidwpjjr] and yet another menu will appear. In that menu is an option for the[b:bidwpjjr] Status Bar[/b:bidwpjjr]. If it doesn't have a tick next to it, just click on [b:bidwpjjr]Status Bar[/b:bidwpjjr] and a tick will be placed next to it and the Status Bar will appear including your Zoom button.

Seeing how you are having some minor issues with Internet Explorer, I suggest you also reset all default settings.....to do that:

First make sure the 'Menu Bar' is displayed at the top left of the browser. Should see options for [b:bidwpjjr]File, Edit, View, Favorites, Tools, Help[/b:bidwpjjr].

If the Menu Bar is missing just follow the exact same steps as with the 'Status Bar' except at the end click on [b:bidwpjjr]Menu Bar[/b:bidwpjjr].

Now, from the Menu Bar, click on [b:bidwpjjr]Tools[/b:bidwpjjr] and then [b:bidwpjjr]Internet Options[/b:bidwpjjr]. Click on the[b:bidwpjjr] Advanced[/b:bidwpjjr] tab and at the bottom of that window you will see "Reset Internet Explorer settings". Click on the[b:bidwpjjr] Reset [/b:bidwpjjr]button.

That will reset all settings back to default and hopefully solve the problems.

Cheers....Jim

Thanks Jim,
I always print off your instructions so I can follow them to a T so I will try this right now. I may have to wait a little while before I know how it does but will get back to you and see everything is doing better.

So glad you are always available. What would I do without you.

I am back again. This time I am having a problem with when I click on a video I get a box popping up that says "Please wait while windows configures Roxio CinePlayer." Then a message says, "The feature you are trying to use is on a network resource that is unavailable." Try the installation again using a valid copy of the installation package 'CP.MSI'
I can not find Roxio CinePlayer anywhere on my computer in ad or remove programs or by doing a search. I figure I may have done something wrong by deleting something off and deleting too much. Windows media player is my default player. Ask me questions and I will know what else I need to tell you.
Hope you are having a good day.

Hey Shirl - Sounds like Roxio CinePlayer has taken over as default. Try this:

1) Right click on the video file. From the menu, click on [b:3clb7fkq]Properties[/b:3clb7fkq].
2) In the "Properties" window, look for "Opens with:" and click on the [b:3clb7fkq]Change[/b:3clb7fkq] button.
3) Now you should see a list of Recommended Programs. Select Windows Media Player (click on it) and then click[b:3clb7fkq] OK[/b:3clb7fkq].
4) Now, back in the "Properties" window, click [b:3clb7fkq]Apply[/b:3clb7fkq] then[b:3clb7fkq] OK[/b:3clb7fkq].

Let us know how you get on.

Hope you are well Shirl (and Richard too),
Cheers....Jim

Hi Jim,
Richard and I are both doing fine. I also hope you and your better half are well.

I probably didn't explain things too well. I was in a big hurry because I was going to see my sister who is in a nursing home. I probably should have waited until I returned but thought maybe I could get a head start and you would have a post back when I returned. As you did and I always appreciate your prompt replies. I am never sure about the time difference from here to there though. Anyway I was talking about those little video things you get on emails and there was no option to right click and tell it how to open. It seems that Windows Media Player is still my default player and it also opens but that Roxio thing tries to run also and if I click cancel on it about 3 times it goes away and Media player runs. I had looked in my Programs, my add and remove programs and also did a search trying to find Roxio CinePlayer and couldn't find it anywhere. I recently bought the Roxio Creator 2011 so I figured it must be coming from there some way so I finally found it today. I right clicked Roxio Creator 2011 in my programs and sure enough under applications Roxio CinePlayer was listed at the top. I clicked on it and it opened just fine. It had an option to update it so since it isn't suppose to be reacting this way do you think it might help if I update it or if that doesn't help should I uninstall and reinstall Roxio Creatro 2011.

By the way my mouse problem I was having before seems to be really solved now. When I reinstalled it I thought it was doing better but that didn't last no time. It got to where if I tried to highlight anything it would highlight and then the highlight would dissapear before I could finish doing what I was trying to do. Also if I was trying to play cards on the computer I would have to try over and over to pick up the cards. I got so aggravated I bought a new wireless microsoft keyboard and mouse and everything including other issues I seemed to be having with the computer cleared up.

Thanks a bunch Jim,

Shirl

I forgot to add that I have had the Roxio Creator 2011 since Sept and this problem just started in the last few days. I think maybe I deleted something too much using the Revo uninstaller that might be the problem. You know I can always mess things up not knowing what the heck I am doing but trying anyway.

OK Shirl. The problem remains the same it's just a little more complicated to fix.

Each type of media file (format) is set to open with a particular program....this is known as 'file associations'. So when you click on a certain file it will then automatically open using the particular program which has been set to open it. When you install something like CinePlayer it tends to take over the media file associations and set itself as the default program to open these files.

The process is still the same, or at least very similar...you just need one more step:

Next time you get a video (media file) as an attachment instead of trying to open it from the email client you will need to save it somewhere. Just right click on the attachment and select [b:1vkazouy]Save As...[/b:1vkazouy] and then choose a location to save it (doesn't matter where, just so long as you remember where it is).

Navigate to that saved file and then follow steps 1 through to 4 from my initial reply.

You may need to do that for each format until such times as everything just opens up with WMP again.

There is a way to reset [i:1vkazouy]all[/i:1vkazouy] defaults back to the way they were when you first got the computer. Trouble with that is, it will revert all default file associations not just the ones you want to change and there will likely be some you wish to leave the way they are.

Sorry for being so late getting back to you....been busy here the last couple of days.

Cheers.....Jim

P.S....have no idea what this means: [quote:1vkazouy]the Speed test thing a ma jig isn't working[/quote:1vkazouy]......sorry.

You may need to clarify that, just a tad.

No problem Jim. You are always prompt and I am in no hurry.
The thing is Jim it is not trying to run where I have a choice how to open or even to open it. You know when you get a little video that is already open on the screen. That is where the CinePlayer pops up. When I cancel it out and I do open the attachment of the same thing that is open on the screen I just click open and it opens fine in Windows media player and plays with no problem. I also discovered today another way it is trying to run. Today is one of my daughter's birthday so I went into one of those sites to send her a birthday greeting. As soon as I went into the site and everytime I would go to another page on the site the cineplayer would start to run. The problem is though it doesn't actually play anything. It pops up and says (Please wait while Windows configures Roxio CinePlayer and then the little green bar runs like it is trying to open up and then the message ( "The feature you are trying to use is on a network resource that is unavailable." Try the installation again using a valid copy of the installation package 'CP.MSI')
The attachment is actually working fine. Also I had already reset all defaults back to the way they were and nothing changed.

Guess I just automatically think everyone understands my weird way of talking. LOL Of course Richard could sympatize with you trying to understand me. Awe heck I even sympatize. What I meant about the "speed test thing a ma jig" was the "Broadband Test" on Dave's Computer that lets us hit start and it runs a speed test on our computers. The "Start" is not there. Take a gander (look) at it and you will see what I mean.

Aha!! My fault entirely Shirl, I wasn't listening properly......typical male!! LOL

Key here is locating if and where CinePlayer is installed.

I can't find out for certain whether or not CinePlayer is part of the Roxio Creator package. It isn't listed among the features on the Creator home page but I think it is most likely that it would be included. The strange thing is that your search for CinePlayer didn't turn anything up.

We need, first off, to locate the software. Have look (gander - we use that too ) in the Roxio Creator program files? Go to [b:1fx2a631]Computer>Main drive (C)>Program files>Roxio[/b:1fx2a631], open the folder and see if you can locate anything to do with CinePlayer.

Let me know,
Cheers....Jim

Oops I didn't realize until now that you had responded to my last post. First thing I do when I get on my emails is go down through getting rid of junk and I must have accidently gotten rid of the new one telling me I had a response on here. I remember thinking you probably didn't mess with this over the week end and I didn't blame you. Just now figured I would check and see for sure if my last post went through and found it not only went through but as usual you had also promptly responded to it. That is a woman thing, figuring she has it all figured out and turning out to be wrong. LOL

Ok now to the issue at hand. I looked in All Programs, found Roxio 2011, highlighted and on applications CinePlayer is the first one listed at the top.

OK Shirl. What we need to do now is open CinePlayer from that location. Should be an icon in the folder from which you can run the program just by itself.

Once CinePlayer is open, go through any options/settings/preferences and see if you can find anything relating to "default player" or "default file associations"...anything similar. If there is no access to the options/settings via the player's interface you may need to right click on a CinePLayer icon in the notification area of the task bar and access them from that menu.

If you need to post a screenshot for help...no problemo!!

Disable any options which resemble what I have said and see if that fixes it.

Cheers Shirl......Jim

Thank you so much Jim. I printed off your instructions. Went in and did as you said. I could not find anything about it relating to default player. While searching all the options I found where I could check for updates and ran it. It said I needed to update Roxio 2011 Service pack 1 dated Sept 2010. I ran the update and it seems the problem is fixed. I checked and when I went into sites that it had been trying to install on CinePlayer did not try to open and windows media player opened and played. What would I do without you. I shudder to think, because I know I would mess up and keep trying stuff till I really got things in a mess.

Richard said to tell you hello.
