Hey Grr - Nice to hear from you.

I may be having a day where I am just a tad dense but, I don't quite understand mate.

What do you mean, "when i open taskbar"? Doesn't the taskbar usually load with the OS when explorer is running?

And, "I do not c the icon in tray? Which icon, and in what tray??

Maybe it is something peculiar to VMware, which I admit I have no experience of. Can you please clarify a little for the benefit of this silly old duffer.

Thanks mate....Jim

I believe what Grr is trying to say, it that all the Icons from the Tray (bottom right on the screen have vanished), Mindblower!

On a default install, Windows XP on a VM doesn't show any icons in the corner....

What icons are expected?

Hello All,

I must agree that I should have made the post in senses...was 90% sleepy while posting

The problem is not with Vmware..

In XP when we open Task Manager, it shows an icon in the Tray (near the clock) which would show the CPU usage. However for me it's not showing.

Thanks, Grr

Hey Grr - Aha!! So we were talking about Task Manager and not the Taskbar. No worries.

Try this:

1) Launch Task Manager.
2) Click on the Processes tab and then locate taskmgr.exe
3) End the process - right click and select 'End Process' or highlight it and click on the[b:20vvqal3] End Process[/b:20vvqal3] button.
4) Relaunch Task Manager.

See if that does the trick.

Cheers...Jim

Jim's solution should work, unless (wild guess here) you somehow managed to configure it to "always hide"?

@Jim - I have tried that multiple times, but no help.

@FD - yeh, I thought so and unchecked hide inactive icons.....

nope. I have set to Classic Start Menu. But earlier it used to work good with this setting.

Yes, exactly Grr. Under the Classic Start Menu; the icon will appear in the system tray when Task Manager is first initiated but, if Task Manager is closed and then started again, it will often no longer appear. Change it back to XP mode and it should rectify the problem.
