New PC not booting up.

Hi Dave

Well have had my computer working for about 2 months now.

Last night all working well. This morning boot up and it hangs at windows set up at the blue strobe thing.
When I try to restart it with the button it starts bleeping 4 long bleeps continuous.

I looked up the motherboards manual and the bios bleeps says 4 long bleeps is Graphics card not fitted
right. This cannot be as it is a integral graphics card on this MB. Gigabyte 785GMT-USB3

Can you throw some light on this.

Hey Hugh - First thing we have to ask, seeing you mentioned "new" and "2 months": exactly how old is the computer and is it still under warranty? And are we talking desktop or laptop?

Just because the motherboard has integrated graphics doesn't necessarily mean there is no dedicated graphic card fitted, there can be both. How many ports are there for connecting a monitor, and what color are they??

It has been my experience that faulty RAM or RAM not seated/connecting properly is one of the most common causes of error beep codes. Try removing the RAM, wipe the gold contacts over with a soft cloth dipped in mentholated spirits and then put the RAM back in the slot(s).

Hi Jim

Thanks for the quick reply. Sorry it is a PC I used my orig case and put new MB chip RAM etc.
I have a guarantee on parts but not the whole. It does not have a dedicated video card, I am
not a gamer so I dont need one.

I will try cleaning and reseating the RAM tonight after work.

Hi Jim

I have come home and removed the RAM and cleaned and replaced. When
I booted up computer starts up but the Monitor is dead, the green light
keeps flashing as if it is not getting any signal. I stopped the PC and restarted
to the 4 long bleeps. It looks like a trip back to the shop for them to test MB
unless you have some bright ideas for me Please!!!!

Hugh - It's certainly starting to sound like a graphics issue and the beeping would normally suggest hardware.

Hopefully it may be just a driver issue (but I doubt it). Will the machine boot into Safe Mode?

If the machine will boot into safe mode; go into Device Manager and see if there are error icons associated with any devices?

If you cannot boot into Safe Mode then that would also suggest a hardware issue; from what you have said, most likely motherboard or faulty RAM.

Yes after last night not booting up and no monitor I have decided to
take PC into the shop to get them to test MB. Thank you for your help.

Hi Jim

I took my computer back to the shop they have tested it. It is ok,
but what was wrong I had put the USB leads onto the motherboard
the wrong way. I remember I had to guess where to put themas the case wiring was
different to the MB book, I was using my old case which did not
know about USB3. Anyway I had put my USB things in the first time
and it worked, when I moved it the other day I noticed the mouse did not
work so I changed the socket and it worked until the next morning,
when the bleeping started.

I never would have guessed that the USB set up would cause that problem.
Well at least I have had my PC checked over properly and know everything
is correct.

Just thought I would let you know of this fault incase someone else has it.
