Greetings to one and all.
My name is Steve and I have a small sign making business in the UK.
Making signs, I quite often have to enter large amounts of text in upper case.
I am running Windows XP Pro and I am looking for a way to remap a standard keyboard as follows:
When I press shift I expect, and get capital letters until it is released.
When I press the caps lock I expect, and get capital letters until it is pressed again.
However, I am always forgetting to disengage the caps lock and after typing a couple of sentences I look at the screen and have caps where I want lower case and lower case where I want caps and it really does my head in.
Please correct me if I

Hi Steve - And welcome. I may be wrong but I don't think it is possible to do what you require. There [i:i2vsl3ol]is [/i:i2vsl3ol]software around for re-mapping of keyboards but they will merely allow swapping of roles between keys rather than configuring a whole new function. As with most things in Windows the keyboard layout/functions are all controlled through the registry...maybe some computer genius could write a registry hack which would work for you, other than that I think you are stuck with what you already have mate.

There are some clever people here Steve and maybe one of them knows something I don't (that would not surprise me in the least ) so, don't give up just based on my say so.

good luck mate,
cheers...JIM

Hello grafix and welcome aboard!

I see two things that can help...
Windows has the ability to warn you when you enable caps-lock and/or num-lock. It's pretty simple and may be enough to 'jog' your brain as you type. You can find instructions at [url:2bg792rg]http://www.davescomputertips.com/articles/general/fixing_the_caps_lock_problem_with_toggle_keys.php[/url:2bg792rg]

Another option is a program called ShiftOff[/url:2bg792rg]. It is small and does exactly what you are asking in your post. Have a look at both and I'm sure one, or both, will help you out!

Hmmm....so I [i:26rmo34i]was [/i:26rmo34i]wrong. I better not let the missus see this!!

Glad you got it fixed Steve...Dave to the rescue. See, I told you there were some clever people here...at least I got that bit right!!

I had a bo peep at the conversion software you linked to...sounds really good. Would be an excellent addition for anyone dealing with conversions on a regular basis but for someone like me, who requires that service only very occasionally, there are some good online resources readily available...and no installation needed. Still, it sounds like a very good product and we shall add it to Dave's list of recommended freeware on the DCT Site[/url:26rmo34i].....thank you!!

cheers....JIM

Hi Steve - You are most welcome mate, we look forward to hearing more from you. Even though I have been in Oz for many years (more than I care to mention... ), I was born in England and grew up in Middlesex....you have no idea how much 'stick' I have taken from the Aussies whenever that fact is mentioned!!

cheers now...JIM
